Lord David Blunkett


Over a distinguished 45 year career of public service, David has built unrivalled experience of public policy and its implementation, to drive change and successful outcomes across the most important leadership roles in UK, European, and local political action.

As one of the longest serving senior UK Cabinet Ministers of recent years, David led the Home Office (including Justice Ministry), Department of Education and Employment, and Department of Work and Pensions, with responsibility for priority setting and management of running highly sensitive Departments of State, employing tens of thousands of staff with budgets in the billions of pounds. Accordingly, David has led, run and managed organisations of exceptional scale importance, sensitivity and impact on national life.

As an MP and Shadow Minister, David was instrumental in modernising the Labour Party in the 1990s and readying it for thirteen years in power, so gaining extraordinary experience of change management at the top of national life in the most challenging of circumstances. As one of Tony Blair’s closest confidants, David was not only able to see government at work at the highest possible level but to contribute to broader policy including at times of considerable challenge. 

David Ross


David qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co. He co-founded The Carphone Warehouse Group plc in 1991 and led the company's IPO and subsequent growth to becoming Europe's leading mobile communications retailer. David is a board member of the British Olympic Association, Commonwealth Games England, Cosalt (Chair), 'LAMDA 150' (Chair), Serpentine Gallery (Council member) and The University of Nottingham's Development Committee (Chair). David is a Trustee of the National Portrait Gallery, Uppingham School and a member of The Old Vic Artistic Director's Circle.

He has also been a member of Sport England, the Home Office Audit Committee, and Lord Carter's Review of Legal Aid Procurement. He was appointed to London United, the body supporting the capital's bid to be a host city for the 2018 World Cup bid, having previously been the Mayor's representative for the planning of the 2012 London Olympics.

He is passionate about developing educational opportunities for young people, by supporting world-class organisations outreach work and sponsoring primary and secondary academies in the East Midlands, East of England and Yorkshire regions. In addition to donating funds, he gives freely of his time and expertise with all these institutions.

Louise Wilson

Louise graduated in Politics from the University of Nottingham in 1987 and is a former President of the Students’ Union. She started her career in Strategic Consultancy with Accenture, moving to specialize in marketing and Sponsorship with Proctor and Gamble, Pepsi Co. and the Coca-Cola Company.

Louise is currently the Chief Executive of Signature Sponsorship Ltd, a strategic sponsorship consultancy which purchases and activates global sponsorships on behalf of corporate clients including HSBC and Shell, and a wide sporting spectrum. Louise is a member of the University Council for Nottingham University, as well as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and serves on a number of other fora.

Tom Hindmarch

Tom is a partner at the firm Duncan and Toplis (one of the largest firms of independent accountants in the UK), based in Stamford, and acts for many local businesses, having experience in advising a diversity of clients, although farmers and related trades form a major part of his work.  Tom lives in Stamford and is Treasurer of the Stamford Chamber of Trade. In his spare time he enjoys rugby and reading.

Adrian K Dixon

Co-opted Trustee

Professor Dixon was born in Cambridge where he is now Emeritus Professor of Radiology at the University of Cambridge and an Honorary Fellow of Peterhouse.

Gaining a BA from King's College in 1969 he graduated MB BCh in 1972 after clinical studies at St. Bartholomew's Hospital London. He then pursued general medicine at Nottingham. Changing to Radiology he qualified FRCR in 1978. After spells in Paediatric Radiology (Great Ormond Street) and CT (St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London) he became Lecturer (1979)  and then Professor (1994) of Radiology at the University of Cambridge.

Amongst his varied roles and career interests, he has had a particular focus on developing Body Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. He was an NHS consultant radiologist for 36 years (an appropriate career in view of his profound deafness) . He gained his MD with a thesis on Computed Tomography of the lumbar spine in 1988. He was awarded FRCP in 1991, FMedSci in1998 and FRCS in 2003. 

Professor Dixon currently serves as a member of the University Grants Committee of Hong Kong and on the Governing Body of University College, Cork, Ireland. He was elected a Fellow of Peterhouse, Cambridge in 1986, where he was Director of Studies in Medicine, and served as Master 2008-2016.


Andrea Medlicott-Revell

Andrea is the Chair of governors at Endike Primary School in Hull. She made her career in advertising but has also been involved in the local community and actively supporting schools and young people all of her adult life. She worked with the Youth Action charity and had roles as classroom volunteer, reading monitor and governor at the school before her current appointment.

Having been a governor for many years she has a broad range of experience in recruiting staff and recently helped manage the design and rebuild of the school. She is passionate about the Arts and lives in Hull with her husband and four children.

Alan Hancock

Alan is a retired Geography teacher from Uppingham,  Alan is currently the Chair of Governors at Charles Read Academy in Corby Glenn and currently on the Finance sub-committee.

Alan chaired the Project Steering Group which oversaw the transition of the threatened Unity College in Northampton into the Malcolm Arnold Academy, the second DRET school, which opened in 2010.

Alan’s teaching career began in 1969 at Stamford School, then a Direct Grant school, where he became Housemaster of one of the two senior boarding houses and Head of Geography, evaluating proposed educational publications for a major academic publisher and setting O level papers, supervising marking teams, and awarding grades for one of the exam boards. 

The Rt Revd John Holbrook

The Rt Revd John Holbrook was installed as Bishop of Brixworth on 29 June 2011.

Before Bishop John came to Brixworth he had various roles in the ministry centred mainly in the south west of England, and immediately prior to his appointment as Bishop of Brixworth he was Rector of Wimborne Minster in Salisbury Diocese. In addition he has been a governor of both primary and secondary schools, and was involved in an Ashridge Business School project to develop a programme in work-place spirituality. He has also represented Salisbury Diocese on the national Diocesan Missioners’ Network and been involved in diocesan lay training programmes. 

Sir Andrew Foster

Sir Andrew Foster has had a long career in public service. He served as Chief Executive of the Audit Commission for England and Wales between 1992 and 2003, and was previously Deputy Chief Executive of the NHS and Director of Social Services for North Yorkshire County Council. He is currently Deputy Chairman of the Royal Bank of Canada and serves on the boards of a number of listed companies. Sir Andrew was recently appointed to lead an independent review into the Government's ‘Building Colleges for the Future’ programme, having lead two previous reviews into further education and the future of athletics. He was knighted for his work in health and government services in 2001.

Professor Katharine Reid

Katharine Reid obtained her B.Sc. (1986) and Ph.D. (1989) in Chemical Physics from the University of Sussex. She then spent two years as an SERC/NATO Fellow with Professor Richard Zare at Stanford University, USA.

Professor Reid returned to an EPSRC Advanced Fellowship at the University of Nottingham in 1992.  She gained a permanent academic position in 1995 and a Readership in 2002 before being appointed as Professor of Chemical Physics in 2007.

Kirsty Whitehead

Kirsty Whitehead is an experienced corporate lawyer by background with over 20 years experience of successfully working with CEOs, executive teams and boards to build profitable businesses.

Kirsty is the General Counsel for Worldpay UK where she is an influential and active member of their executive team. Worldpay processes 31 million mobile, online and in-store transactions a day – or 360 every second. They support 400,000 merchants in 126 currencies across 146 countries and are responsible for almost half of transactions in the UK and last year were responsible for £370 billion of payments.

James Dunseath

James Dunseath is Chair of Governors at Bringhurst Primary School.

James is a consultant specialising in international Capital Markets covering equities, derivatives, exchange technology and regulation.

James held a number of senior financial communications positions including at London futures and options market, LIFFE, the amalgamation of Continental European exchanges, Euronext, the New York Stock Exchange and most recently at the Intercontinental Exchange.  

Ben Brown

Ben has been a governor at Eastfield Academy for nearly three years, becoming Chair of the Local Governing Body in 2015.
Ben is passionate about improving educational outcomes with technology, having managed the Education Strategy for HP for seven years, before moving to his current role at Samsung.  
He has a wealth of experience in understanding how the use of various technologies can improve attendance, administration, results and importantly move pupils forward multiple levels.  Working with a number of Academy Trusts, Ben also has a good overview of different strategies, what has worked and hasn't.
Ben is also a keen sportsman and has played a number of sports locally including Football, Cricket and Rugby.    

Mike Lovett

Mike has extensive experience in the education sector and is currently Chair of the Local Governing Body of Lodge Park Academy as well as a local primary school.
As LEA adviser/inspector, Mike led the introduction of, and training for, the installation of the first national computers in schools programme and set up the county computer education centre. 
Mike was promoted to general inspector of LEA schools and principal inspector for school improvement; by the time he left this role there were no Northamptonshire secondary or middle schools in Ofsted categories.  One of the original group of Ofsted Registered Inspectors, Mike led 50 inspections of secondary and middle schools receiving ‘A’ grade assessments by HMI, and inspected as a team member on approximately 50 others. 
Mike is an accredited and active trainer for Ofsted courses for trainee inspectors and for practising inspectors on the interpretation of data. He joined DfE Academies programme in 2004 as lead adviser on many projects and led the academies’ School Improvement Partner (SIP) programme. 

Mike is also a DfE Board member for the evaluation of Free School proposals and a member of the Board for considering schools’ bids for Academy Conversion, contributing to recommendations to ministersc and acted as lead adviser for 12 Free Schools and two Studio Schools.  Currently semi-retired, Mike occasionally carries out consultancy work for individual academies and the DfE. 

David Stone

David Stone has been a Governor at Quay Academy since 2009 and became Chair in February 2015. He currently has two children attending Quay Academy and a third who has just started secondary school having attended Quay from Year R to Year 6. 

As well as bringing a parent's perspective to his role, David also has substantial experience in the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Sector at local and national level. This gives him good links with the local community, including business and valuable insights on governance, funding and community development.    

Nigel Woodcock

Nigel is a former Chief Executive/Director of Finance, with approximately 30 years experience of the NHS, working both locally and on national projects. 

He is experienced in implementing the Financial and Corporate Governance policy, which includes financial control, audit and financial probity. Nigel has extensive experience of working at a Strategic and Board level and developing long term financial strategy and business plans to ensure continuing viability. Nigel has worked at director, deputy director and assistant director of finance levels.
